Ir. Dr. Zaini Ujang Breaks Fast with His Holiness Bakhytzhan Otkelbayev, Naib Imam of Khazret Sultan Mosque, Building Ties Between Malaysia and Kazakhstan
10 JUNE 2017, Astana, Kazakhstan - Four hundred people came together today to break fast in conjunction with Ramadan at the Khazret Sultan Mosque – the largest mosque in Central Asia – in an Iftar programme organized by the Malaysian Government in conjunction with EXPO 2017. The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water, Malaysia cum Malaysia’s Commissioner at EXPO 2017, Ir. Dr. Zaini Ujang together with Mr. Beibit Myrzageldiyev, Head of Halal Industry Department of Grand Mufiyat Kazakhstan led the event.
Guests, who included the Malaysian delegates to EXPO 2017, Malaysians living in Kazakhstan, as well as Kazakh officials and people from all walks of life, observed Iftar together, celebrating one of the obligations under the Islamic faith.
Speaking at the event, Ir. Dr. Zaini Ujang stated: “Like Kazakhstan, Malaysia is also a progressive Islamic country. We are proud to be one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world consisting of many ethnicities and religions that live in peace and tolerance for each other under the same nation. It is with this same unity that brings all of us together tonight.”
Beyond strengthening the bilateral relationship between the two Muslim-majority countries, the event also brought together Malaysians and their brothers and sisters from the Muslim fraternity of Kazakhstan.
